This Week’s Lesson:  “Talk The Walk”

Kids say a lot of words in a day. Most of the time, they don’t think twice about it. This lesson is all about helping them slow down and realize just how much their words matter. Have you ever heard the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”? It sounds catchy, but it’s totally not true. Words absolutely can hurt even more than falling down and scraping your knee. That’s because words don’t just hurt you on the outside...they hurt you on the inside.

The Book of James teaches a lot about the power of our words. In fact, he compares the tongue to a spark that can set a whole forest on fire. The tongue may be small, but it can pack a BIG punch! That’s why we must be very careful not to use our words to lie, gossip, or put others down.

In this lesson, we’ll learn from the story of Barnabas encouraging Paul. It’s a great example of someone using their words to build another person up at a moment when it really mattered. By the end of this lesson, the children will learn that they must use their words carefully. They must speak words that help, not hurt.
