Clean Water Project

February's Missions Focus

Aerial View of Oloibor

The village of Oloibor, Kenya has 490 homes and about 3500 people living there. Before the drought, two rivers, the Mungush and the Olenarau, were their water source. Both rivers have been dry for months. Each morning, women from the village walk 2 hours to low spots in the dry riverbeds and dig holes in the sand hoping to find water beneath the surface. Sadly, even the little bit of water they find is disease filled and dangerous.

East Africa is experiencing one of its greatest droughts in recorded history. Over 10 million people have been impacted and hundreds of thousands have died.

Some Kenyan villages have had no rain in over two years. The Maasai a nomadic group of farmers have struggled to find water for themselves and their animals.

Want to Learn More About the Maasai People?

In February, we are joining with Pastor Rhoda at our church in Oloibor to drill and install an ecofriendly, sustainable water well for the whole village. We have found water deep in the ground, now, we are going to bring that water to the village for the first time in history. We are going to install a solar paneled pump, a 2600 gallon tank and concreted access points for people and a separate one for animals. We are also sending people to train church members to operate and maintain the equipment.

How Can I Help?

The cost to bring water to a home is $102.04.
That's just over $100 to provide water for a home.

$14.58 provides water for one person.
